Does it make me look so dumb and idiot if Steve Jobs is not that familiar to me? Well, I honestly do not know who Steve Jobs is. Though I somehow heard his name before, I do not have any idea how great he was and what are his contributions to the society. Only to find out that he was the famous co-founder, chairman, and CEO of Apple Inc. There I figured out why is his video the subject of reflection in our Information Technology class. Alright, he have done great in the field of technology specially computers. But could we really get much lesson from what he did? Why do we have to reflect from his invention? Those were the things that I was asking myself before I watched the video.
“Every experience brings out something good. Times become good memories, bad times become good lessons. We never lose we only gain from life.” After I have watched the video, this was the thing that was instilled in my mind. I found Steve simple but blessed with extraordinary charm. But why charm? He is a risk taker. He does whatever he feels disregarding what others may say. That is exactly what I admired about him. He lived his life following his heart and intuition. As I go along with my blog, let me share the statements he had that really caught me.
His first story is about connecting the dots. “You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards.” That was such a quote that you would really ponder. For it is true, that every time we make decisions, we do not exactly know where that would head us, for life is full of uncertainties. When we make decisions, we have to be man enough to face the consequences that it may bring. We have to trust ourselves that every step we take would lead us to the place where we really wanted. He also made me realize that in every action we do, we have to follow our heart. I find that wise. If we do follow our heart, we won’t have regrets wherever we end up. He reiterated that we have to make a difference. A famous man once said, be the change you wish to see. If you wanted to change the things you do not like, you have the power to change it. Remember that the change you wanted is just in your hands.
Steve’s second story was love and loss. “Its awful tasting the medicine, but I guess the patient needed it”. There are instances where we learn better if we had it the hard way. We tend to take things for granted if these things were in us. However, when the time comes that these things were gone, we realize their value. It makes me remember the quote “everything happens for a reason”. God gives us challenges to see the beauty of what we have. Therefore, we have to cherish whatever we have now. Our family, friends and our loved ones are the reasons why we have to be thankful. Let us value them by letting them feel they are loved, cared and remembered. If you have the opportunity now to hug and kiss them, you better do it now. Remember that once these people are lost, they are lost forever.
Lastly, his third story is about death. Whenever I hear that word, I really associate it with my sins. I do not know exactly why. Maybe, because of too much violation I've done that’s why I would end up dead and that really frightens me. But Steve Jobs, never sees death like that. “Remembering that you are going to die is the best way to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose”. As he uttered that, I really stopped and came to think of it. No one wants to die! Yes, life is too short, so we have to make the most out of everything we have and we could. In life we should not hold back. Let’s live as if we are dying! Sounds crazy but that’s true. We only have to live life once so let’s have it to the fullest. Death is life’s changing agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. We could never avoid that. That is the destination we all share.
If I were to sum all the things I got from Steve Jobs that would be being simply human. Man naturally commits mistake. That’s given! But we are responsible on how to make these mistakes as our strength. Life is a roller coaster of learning. It’s actually up to us if we will ride with it, go with the flow or go against it. Well, in the end, we are the ones driving our own journey. Let’s just live with it and savor every dish that life offers.
